YMM’s Lost & Surrendered Items Sale Supports the Community

Proceeds from the popular event will support a new inclusivity-focused collaboration between YMM and the Autism Society of the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo.

Fort McMurray, AB – The Fort McMurray Airport Authority (FMAA) welcomed hundreds of residents to YMM on May 13 and 14 for its highly anticipated Lost & Surrendered Items Sale, turning forgotten and surrendered airport items into community impact while raising $2,725!

Held in the Arrivals area on Level 1, the two-day sale featured everything from luggage and tech to bags of lighters, pocketknives, tools, clothing and more. With all items available for a minimum $2 donation, bargain hunters lined up early and left with bags full of unexpected treasures.

“This event is always a fun way to connect with the community while supporting an organization doing meaningful work in our region,” said Cuyler Green, Vice President, Operations & Infrastructure at the FMAA. “It also serves as a helpful reminder for travellers to check CATSA regulations before heading to the airport and understand what items are not permitted through security screening. Instead of these items going to waste, we’re able to give them a second life while supporting a great cause.”

The Autism Society of the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo provides advocacy, resources, programs and support services for individuals with autism spectrum disorder and their families across the region.

“We’re incredibly grateful to YMM and everyone who supported this year’s Lost & Surrendered Items Sale,” said Tina Delainey, Executive Director of the Autism Society of the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo. “This partnership helps support more inclusive experiences in our community, and we’re excited to continue working together on future accessibility-focused initiatives at the airport.”

As Northern Alberta’s gateway airport, YMM continues to look for opportunities to enhance the passenger experience while strengthening community connections. The FMAA and Autism Society are currently collaborating on a new inclusivity focused initiative at YMM, with more details to be shared in the future.

The Lost & Surrendered Items Sale takes place approximately every three to four years and continues to be a highly anticipated community event at YMM.

Residents are encouraged to follow YMM’s social media channels and subscribe to the YMM Check-In, the airport’s monthly e-newsletter, to stay informed on upcoming airport events, initiatives and community activities.
