THOMPSON, MB —Community members got their first look at the new Thompson Regional Airport terminal Friday as the airport opened its doors for a public open house.
Community members and families toured the new terminal, took part in family activities and got an up-close look at aircraft and services that connect communities across Northern Manitoba.
The 44,000-square-foot terminal replaces the airport’s existing aging 14,000-square-foot facility and is part of a $125-million redevelopment program at Thompson Regional Airport.
“Today was about giving the community the first opportunity to experience the new terminal,” said James Lindsey, President and CEO of the Thompson Regional Airport Authority. “This is an exciting moment for our community. As the Hub of the North, this airport plays an important role in everyday life across the North – connecting people with community, patients with healthcare, food to shelves, tourists to destinations and workforce to workplace. It was great to see our community enjoying the new space and celebrating what it will mean for the region.”
Operations from the new terminal will commence October 4th with the official grand opening taking place later in October with government, Indigenous leaders, community partners and stakeholders from across the North.
