July | August 2026 AirportImprovement.com 64 ARTSCAPES YTZ Doggone Effective Meet Harry, one of the 10 rescue dogs featured in a recent exhibit at Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport (YTZ) celebrating the beauty of second chances. Dogs in Flight, by Toronto-based photographer Jack Jackson, was assembled to encourage travelers and community members to pause, reflect and consider the enduring impact dogs have on our lives—and the heartwarming impacts of rescue dog adoption. “Every one of these photos represents a dog with a story and a chance at a new beginning,” says Jackson. Nieuport Aviation, the owner and operator of YTZ’s passenger terminal, collaborated with Jack Jackson Dog Photography and Toronto Animal Services to present the monthlong display, with in-kind and financial support from NutriCanine, a Toronto company that delivers fresh, personalized dog food to customers throughout Canada. “The passenger terminal at Billy Bishop Airport is more than a place people pass through; it’s a reflection of our community,” says Eve Wiggins, chief operating officer of Nieuport Aviation. “Through Dogs in Flight, we’re proud to partner with organizations that share our values and our belief in giving back. Dogs have given so much to our passengers, whether through therapy programs or critical working roles, and this exhibit is one small way we can help shine a light on dogs in need of care, advocacy and adoption.” Instead of being presented in a standard wall display, the photos were reproduced on large vertical banners and hung from the ceiling with informational and promotional panels. About one week after the exhibit opened, it earned a whopping 9.6 out of 10 possible from Trend Hunter, an online platform that uses big data, crowdsourcing and artificial intelligence to measure what’s hot throughout the world. The rating of 9.6. indicates that the airport’s photo display was one of the top- performing trends anywhere at the time. In addition to helping raise awareness, the temporary exhibit stoked interest in an adoption event at YTZ that helped two of the three rescue dogs featured find their forever homes. “Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport plays a unique role in connecting people and places, and we’re pleased that our community initiatives reflect the fabric of Toronto,” says Warren Askew, vice president, Airport, Toronto Port Authority. “Dogs in Flight is a meaningful example of how our space can be used to highlight important causes like dog rescue and adoption, while also celebrating the joy dogs bring to our lives. As an urban airport, we value initiatives that foster connection and inspire positive action across our city.” PHOTO: JACK JACKSON DOG PHOTOGRAPHY
