FRESNO, CA – Fresno Yosemite International Airport has opened a new Employee Parking Lot, Ground Transportation Facility and an expanded Cell Phone Waiting Area to meet current parking needs. Since 2012, the Airport has experienced a 15 percent increase in passenger traffic and is expected to complete a record year in 2016.
Relocated from long-term public parking, the new employee lot has a dedicated entrance and exit at McKinley Avenue. The configuration eliminates the need for employees to use terminal roads to exit the airport campus. Equipped with six newly installed electric vehicle (EV) charging stations, employees have the option to recharge their EV cars during the course of the work shift. Relocation of employee parking provides expanded capacity in the long-term lot by converting nearly 200 stalls to public parking.
A newly constructed ground transportation facility includes taxi queuing and drivers’ waiting areas. Drivers now have access to an indoor waiting area for accommodation during extreme weather conditions.
The parking lot project included expansion of the Cell Phone Waiting Area which opened in July in time to support summer travel demand. Now at triple its former size, the reconfigured layout provides for ample parking during peak flight arrivals to accommodate family and friends picking up arriving passengers and is conveniently located just seconds from the airport terminal.
“The opening of the employee lot and transportation facility is timely in preparation for the peak holiday travel season,” said Director of Aviation Kevin Meikle. “We are now able to fast-track the long-term parking stall conversion, provide ample space in the cell phone area for motorists, and offer less congested access to and from the airport for the traveling public.”
The project incorporates a number of sustainability elements, which support the Airports commitment to improve air quality. Newly installed electrical vehicle charging stations and designated Low Emission Vehicle parking spaces support and encourage the use of alternative energy transportation. Increased capacity in the cell phone waiting area will help reduce repeated circulation on the terminal roadways. The project also incorporated new energy-efficient LED lighting to reduce energy consumption.
Fresno Yosemite International Airport currently offers Valley passengers daily non-stop flights to Dallas, Denver, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Phoenix, Portland, Salt Lake City, San Diego, San Francisco, Seattle, and Guadalajara, Mexico on domestic and international carriers. Fairbanks International Airport Baggage Transport Conveyor Enhanced With Mod Drive™ System
Airports face a host of unique industry challenges, such as meeting efficiency regulations and seeking out the best maintenance practices to reduce costs and keep operations flowing. In today’s current economic climate, any potential cost savings can go a long way.
In 2019, Alaska’s Fairbanks International Airport (FAI) sought to modernize its equipment and operations. They were dissatisfied with the performance of the gearmotors on their baggage transport conveyors and began searching for new suppliers. Regal approached FAI with a solution that could improve equipment performance and simplify maintenance, with the added benefit of energy cost savings: the Hub City® MOD Drive™ system.
