MELBOURNE, FL (October 18, 2022) - The Melbourne Orlando International Airport (MLB) is excited to announce the addition of an all-new route to Minneapolis-St. Paul, Minnesota onboard Sun Country Airlines. Flights to and from the Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport will begin on February 3, 2023, onboard the airline’s fleet of 737s.
"We are excited to work with Sun Country to offer visitors a stress-free, ultra-convenient way to experience Florida,” said MLB Executive Director Greg Donovan, A.A.E. “MLB offers immediate access to beautiful beaches, cruises, space launches, and world class entertainment – a perfect match with Sun Country which is a well-established airline that offers low fares and outstanding customer service.”
“Minnesotans travel to Florida more than any other state in the winter,” said Grant Whitney, Chief Revenue Officer, Sun Country. “Sun Country offers the most nonstop destinations to Florida from MSP, and we are thrilled to be adding Melbourne as our 12th destination for our loyal vacationers and retirees who winter in Florida.”
“We are extremely excited about this route to the Twin Cities,” said Peter Cranis, Executive Director of the Space Coast Office of Tourism. “We think we have so many great things to offer Minnesotans, not the least of which is great weather during the long winters. We look forward to a long and fruitful partnership with Sun Country.”
Sun Country is the latest air service provider to announce new partnerships with MLB. In Spring 2022, TUI, a leading UK holidaymaker, began flying to MLB, bringing thousands of international visitors to the Space Coast. Similarly, Sunwing Airlines recently announced routes from three Canadian cities to Melbourne.
The Sun Country announcement comes as work nears completion on the $72 million-dollar terminal renovation and expansion project at MLB. The project will provide major upgrades to the comfort and convenience of the MLB customer experience with the addition of 86,000 square feet of new facilities, including a welcome center, new service gates, food and beverage options, retail offerings, an expanded international baggage claim, and four new sets of bathrooms.
"We can’t wait to host Sun Country passengers in our beautiful new facilities. The partnership is a fantastic opportunity since our area communities have so many ties with the greater Minneapolis-St. Paul area. These flights are a great way for Floridians to reconnect and explore Minnesota and other fine Midwestern destinations,” said Donovan.
