Mesa, Arizona — Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport (Gateway Airport, Airport) continued its streak of record-setting passenger activity by welcoming 239,160 total passengers during the month of March 2022. This is the highest monthly passenger total in the history of the Airport and surpasses the previous highwater mark set in March 2019 by almost 15,000 passengers. March represented the sixth record-setting month out of the last ten in year-over-year passenger growth comparisons.
“Air travelers visiting for Cactus League baseball, golf, hiking, and NASCAR are discovering that the Phoenix-Mesa metro area offers so much more,” said Mesa Mayor John Giles, Chairman of Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport Authority (PMGAA). “Gateway Airport provides an affordable and convenient way to escape winter weather with family and friends.”
Five airlines - Allegiant, WestJet, Swoop, Flair, and Sun Country - serve over 60 U.S. and Canadian destinations from Gateway Airport. The Airport, located within a 30-minute drive of Phoenix and Scottsdale, is known for its Just Plane Easy experience, unparalleled value, and exceptional customer service.
J. Brian O’Neill A.A.E., PMGAA Executive Director/CEO added, “We are pleased that a record number of air travelers are choosing the convenience and value of Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport. In preparation for this growth, the Airport has added new food, beverage, and retail concessions, expanded its security screening checkpoint, and increased parking to ensure we provide the best travel experience possible for our customers.”
