ATL tops in passenger numbers and aircraft operations
ATLANTA- Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport officials today welcomed confirmation that ATL served more passengers and hosted more aircraft operations in 2016 than any other airport in the world. The news, first announced by Mayor Kasim Reed during his final State of the City event in February, was officially confirmed today by industry group Airports Council International. 2016 marks the 19th consecutive year ATL has served more passengers than any other airport in a single year.
“Hartsfield-Jackson continues to serve as the leader in the global aviation industry,” Mayor Reed said. “We remain proud of our status as the world’s busiest airport, but we are just as honored to be considered the most efficient airport in the world. It is a testament to our employees and airline partners that we are able to safely and securely move more than 100 million passengers a year, and in doing so remain a vibrant economic engine for the region.”
“We’ll take a moment to recognize this milestone,” Airport General Manager Roosevelt Council, Jr. said. “After that, we will move forward and continue our efforts to ensure Hartsfield-Jackson remains an aviation leader in the years and decades ahead.”
ATL hosted 104,171,935 passengers in 2016, a 2.6 percent increase over the previous year. ATL, which in 2015 became the first airport to serve more than 100 million passengers in a single year, remains the only airport to do so.
ATL hosted 898,356 aircraft movements in 2016, an increase of 1.8 percent over 2015.

Fairbanks International Airport Baggage Transport Conveyor Enhanced With Mod Drive™ System
Airports face a host of unique industry challenges, such as meeting efficiency regulations and seeking out the best maintenance practices to reduce costs and keep operations flowing. In today’s current economic climate, any potential cost savings can go a long way.
In 2019, Alaska’s Fairbanks International Airport (FAI) sought to modernize its equipment and operations. They were dissatisfied with the performance of the gearmotors on their baggage transport conveyors and began searching for new suppliers. Regal approached FAI with a solution that could improve equipment performance and simplify maintenance, with the added benefit of energy cost savings: the Hub City® MOD Drive™ system.
