Montreal, 5 February 2018 – Airports Council International (ACI) World announces the launch of the first edition of the ACI Managing Operations During Construction (MODC) Handbook. The ACI Safety and Technical Standing Committee has drawn on the extensive experience and expertise of its members to develop the guidance. This indispensable resource brings together case studies and best practices in managing airport operations while construction projects are underway and references applicable International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) standards and recommended practices.
As global traffic is expected to double by 2031 according to ACI's World Airport Traffic Forecasts 2017–2040, around the globe airport infrastructure projects are being undertaken to accomodate this growth in passenger and cargo demand. This handbook helps operators maintain a safe environment while ensuring business continuity along the entire project lifecycle.
The guidance material also presents comprehensive coverage of major construction projects worldwide to illustrate some of the best practices and approaches that led to the successful management of operations during construction. Among the projects featured, readers learn about the runway rehabilitation of Dubai International Airport (DXB), one of the busiest hubs in the world. The project consisted of improving the south runway, resurfacing the north runway and undergoing routine maintenance, all while ensuring the safe, secure and smooth flow of passenger and cargo traffic. Another featured project illustrated in the handbook is the Terminal facility improvement for A380 operations at Incheon Airport (ICN). ICN had to improve a building to allow the A380 fleet to be stationed at the airport. In order to accommodate the superjumbo at one of its existing Terminal which did not have an upper boarding bridge, a stand was improved to allow the airplane's operations. Other examples are included covering different aspects of airport projects and operations.
"It is more important than ever that the most appropriate practices and measures are shared and implemented throughout the industry to keep our airports safe, secure, sustainable and customer friendly. I strongly recommend that all airport professionals engaged in operations and development consult this handbook. And I thank all of the professionals in our community of airports that contributed to its creation," said Angela Gittens, Director General of ACI World.
PAVIX: Proven Winner for All Airport Concrete Infrastructure
International Chem-Crete Corporation (ICC) manufactures and sells PAVIX, a unique line of crystalline waterproofing products that penetrate into the surface of cured concrete to fill and seal pores and capillary voids, creating a long lasting protective zone within the concrete substrate.
Once concrete is treated, water is prevented from penetrating through this protective zone and causing associated damage, such as freeze-thaw cracking, reinforcing steel corrosion, chloride ion penetration, and ASR related cracking.
This white paper discusses how the PAVIX CCC100 technology works and its applications.
