Warm weather flights to Mexico and the Caribbean start soon
MILWAUKEE – Passenger traffic continues to rise at Milwaukee Mitchell International Airport (MKE) in 2018. Nearly 600,000 passengers flew through MKE in October, an increase of more than five percent from the same period in 2017.
The increase was largely driven by additional passengers choosing flights operated by Southwest, Delta, and Alaska. October passengers totaled 596,415, which represents an increase of 5.7% from October of last year.
"Additional nonstop service to Cleveland, Nashville, Salt Lake City, and Seattle really helped boost our October numbers. Our hometown airport is empowering even more people to travel from MKE," Milwaukee County Executive Chris Abele said.
The Airport is on pace to reach 7 million passengers for the full year of 2018, which would be the highest annual total since 2012.
“Next year is also looking strong. Nonstop flights to warm weather destinations in Florida, Arizona, and the Caribbean start to pick up in late December, as we move into the 2019 winter travel season,” Airport Director Brian Dranzik added. “We will offer nonstop service to seven destinations in Mexico and the Caribbean this winter, thanks to Apple Vacations, Delta, Funjet Vacations, Southwest, and Volaris.”
MKE offers nonstop flights to 45 destinations coast-to-coast, and 160 international destinations are available from Milwaukee with just one connection. MKE is also served by Air Canada, Alaska, Allegiant, American, Apple/Funjet, Delta, Frontier, Southwest, United, and Volaris. The complete list of nonstop cities can be found at www.flymke.com.
General Mitchell International Airport is owned by Milwaukee County and operated by the Department of Transportation, Airport Division, under the policy direction of the Milwaukee County Executive and the County Board of Supervisors. The airport is entirely funded by user fees; no property tax dollars are used for the airport’s capital improvements or for its day-to-day operation.
