MINNEAPOLIS-ST. PAUL – Valet parking service returned to Terminal 1 at Minneapolis-Saint Paul International Airport (MSP) on Sunday, Aug. 1 after a 16-month closure due to the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic. The service reopened with a recently remodeled valet parking lobby and improved drop-off area accessible via the lower level of the Terminal 1 roadway.
MSP’s valet parking upgrades include an updated entrance, passenger waiting area, restrooms and curbside zone. Approximately 200 square feet of custom stained-glass mosaics by a local artist have been installed inside the space. The artwork’s five panels represent viewpoints from Minnesota’s North Shore of Lake Superior. Renovations also include Kasota limestone on the space’s walls and slip-resistant granite flooring throughout.
“As air travel activity has begun to recover at MSP, we've seen an increase in customers asking about the return of valet service,” said Brian Ryks, CEO of the Metropolitan Airports Commission, which operates MSP. “The more welcoming and comfortable valet lobby, paired with other valet area improvements, were designed to meet the growing demand for this popular service. To help our passengers travel confidently, new health protocols were also implemented at our recently reopened valet service to enhance the safety of our customers.”
Valet drivers use steering wheel covers, leave disinfecting wipes in each vehicle, and follow other airport safety regulations—including wearing required face coverings while in and around vehicles.
The valet parking area offers 350 spaces and is available 24/7. Hourly and daily valet parking rate information is available online.
Passengers can access valet parking at Terminal 1 by following the inbound roadway past hourly and daily parking, and past the rental car return ramp. The valet parking lobby is located one level below baggage claim level.
Terminal 1’s largest carrier by passenger volume, Delta Air Lines, offers an electronic check-in kiosk inside the valet parking lounge. Throughout July, MSP operated an average of 420 daily departures serving 189 domestic and international routes.

Fairbanks International Airport Baggage Transport Conveyor Enhanced With Mod Drive™ System
Airports face a host of unique industry challenges, such as meeting efficiency regulations and seeking out the best maintenance practices to reduce costs and keep operations flowing. In today’s current economic climate, any potential cost savings can go a long way.
In 2019, Alaska’s Fairbanks International Airport (FAI) sought to modernize its equipment and operations. They were dissatisfied with the performance of the gearmotors on their baggage transport conveyors and began searching for new suppliers. Regal approached FAI with a solution that could improve equipment performance and simplify maintenance, with the added benefit of energy cost savings: the Hub City® MOD Drive™ system.
