Syracuse, New York –The Syracuse Regional Airport Authority (SRAA) announced today that construction on the multi-month “Runway 10-28 Rehabilitation Project” has been completed ahead of schedule. This five-month undertaking saw the remediation and reconstruction of the primary runway at Syracuse Hancock International Airport (SYR).
During construction, SYR’s primary east-west runway (10-28) was closed, and the airport’s southeast-northwest runway (15-33) acted as the primary runway. As a result, residents in the vicinity of the airport noticed a change in aircraft traffic patterns, including low-flying aircraft.
“We are pleased to announce that despite the exceptionally-above average rainfall this summer – and subsequent weather delays – we reopened 10-28 this afternoon, approximately two weeks ahead of schedule,” said SYR Executive Director Jason Terreri. “We appreciate our neighbors’ patience and understanding as we continue our mission of providing a safe and secure airport to the community.”
In addition to the work that was done on the asphalt, new lighting and signage were installed to further enhance safety upgrades to the main runway.

Fairbanks International Airport Baggage Transport Conveyor Enhanced With Mod Drive™ System
Airports face a host of unique industry challenges, such as meeting efficiency regulations and seeking out the best maintenance practices to reduce costs and keep operations flowing. In today’s current economic climate, any potential cost savings can go a long way.
In 2019, Alaska’s Fairbanks International Airport (FAI) sought to modernize its equipment and operations. They were dissatisfied with the performance of the gearmotors on their baggage transport conveyors and began searching for new suppliers. Regal approached FAI with a solution that could improve equipment performance and simplify maintenance, with the added benefit of energy cost savings: the Hub City® MOD Drive™ system.
