Memphis, TN – Oct. 6, 2020 - Airport Seating Alliance has completed seating installations at two US Virgin Islands airports – Cyril E. King International Airport (STT) in St. Thomas and Henry E. Rohlsen International Airport (STX) in St. Croix, company officials said today. The installations were part of terminal renovations/recovery from a 2018 hurricane which caused extensive damage to the airports and the islands.
At STT, 941 GATEWAY model seats all with arms and molded polyurethane cushions were installed along with 104 Power and Go seat charging modules supplying power for portable electronics, says James Hammond, ASA general manager. Two Power and Go charging stations with custom Corian surfaces to match airport surfaces were also installed as well as 14 Power and Go charging pedestals were arranged throughout the main terminal, he adds.
At STX, 333 GATEWAY model seats all with arms were installed, says Hammond. 33 Power and Go seat charging modules were installed to supply power; 2 Power and Go charging stations were installed; and 6 Power and Go charging pedestals were installed. Both airports chose custom seat colors to complement their interior design.
Power and Go seat charging features fast charging speeds delivering up to 5 amps of charging power. A green power LED provides visual indication of power to the devices and stainless-steel USB ports are rated for 10,000 insertions.
Hammond says that Power and Go’s components have an expected service life of 15-20+ years. “And, regardless of whether a receptacle outlet reaches end of life or the USB technology becomes obsolete, the Hubble USB receptacles can be replaced in the boxes using the latest technology receptacles without having to replace the entire seating box and cord assemblies,” he says. Replacement is similar to replacing receptacle wall outlets, Hammond adds.
In both installations, Hammond says the units have overcurrent protection (12 Amp chain and 5 Amp individual module protection), have Security Torx-screw minimizes the potential for customers to open or tamper with units; and are hardwired permanently connected power and interconnecting cords.
The Virgin Islands Port Authority was the project sponsor in both projects. Airport Seating Alliance is a certified woman-owned small business.
