Fundraising event in Washington D.C. raises $270K with the help of celeb chefs, headline entertainment, and local groups
WASHINGTON (April 10, 2019) – Setting a higher standard for the fight against poverty, HMSHost Foundation brought nearly 20 celebrity chefs from all over North America together in Washington, D.C., for the 2nd annual Chef’s Table Tuesday evening. The chefs prepared multi-course gourmet meals tableside for guests to enjoy along with a special appearance by David Kwong, an illusionist and puzzle maker whose show, The Enigmatist, has been playing to sellout audiences in New York. HMSHost Foundation organizes Chef’s Table to support its mission to fight poverty. This year’s event raised $270K. The Law firm Baker Hostetler was this year’s Chef’s Table presenting sponsor.
“It is amazing to host Chef’s Table for the second time to raise money and awareness for HMSHost Foundation’s fight against poverty. We are grateful to our sponsors and chefs for lending their resources and talents to us for this important cause,” said HMSHost Foundation President Paul Mamalian. “The message we want Chef’s Table to deliver is that HMSHost Foundation is serious about taking action in the fight against poverty.”
HMSHost Foundation’s impact continues to expand. Since HMSHost Foundation’s inception, it has donated more than $1 million to 64 organizations in the US and Canada.
"HMSHost Foundation is making great progress and we look forward to continuing to exponentially grow the impact across North America. With over 40 million people living in poverty, we know there is considerable work to do still but we are persistent in this fight and that is why tonight is so important,” said HMSHost President & CEO Steve Johnson.
“HMSHost is a true culinary leader, really driving the modern dining revolution in airports. It is an honor to be a partner with HMSHost and to participate in HMSHost Foundation’s Chef’s Table! This event brings together a wonderful group of chefs, raising so much awareness around poverty and the work being done to combat it, something we as chefs are very connected to through working with food in our communities,” said Chef Lorena Garcia.
As a leading restaurateur in travel venues, HMSHost and the culinary world’s most well-known chefs are closely connected. This network gives HMSHost Foundation a unique position to serve communities across Noth America. Participating chefs included partners and friends of HMSHost with accomplished culinary careers that include recognition by the James Beard Foundation, the Michelin Guide, Bravo TV’s Top Chef, and more.
