ORLANDO, FL. – The final passenger numbers are in for the pandemic year of 2020 and Orlando International Airport (MCO) was not exempt from the effects of the virus. Overall, traffic was down more than 57 percent for the year to 21.6 million passengers from a record high of 50.6 million set in 2019.
“The year-end numbers accurately reflect the impact of the COVID-19 virus on Orlando International Airport and the aviation industry in general,” says Phil Brown, Chief Executive Officer of the Greater Orlando Aviation Authority. “We are adapting to a significant change in our operating environment with a focus on executing on the fundamentals of safety, security and excellent customer service.”
Brown predicts 2021 will also be challenging for MCO and the aviation industry overall and doesn’t believe that MCO will see pre-COVID-19 traffic levels until at least 2025.

Fairbanks International Airport Baggage Transport Conveyor Enhanced With Mod Drive™ System
Airports face a host of unique industry challenges, such as meeting efficiency regulations and seeking out the best maintenance practices to reduce costs and keep operations flowing. In today’s current economic climate, any potential cost savings can go a long way.
In 2019, Alaska’s Fairbanks International Airport (FAI) sought to modernize its equipment and operations. They were dissatisfied with the performance of the gearmotors on their baggage transport conveyors and began searching for new suppliers. Regal approached FAI with a solution that could improve equipment performance and simplify maintenance, with the added benefit of energy cost savings: the Hub City® MOD Drive™ system.
