American Airlines begins scheduled service to four cities, new service to Varadero this week

(MIAMI, September 7, 2016) – Scheduled Cuba flights returned to Miami International Airport today when American Airlines flight #903 departed to Cienfuegos and flight #1041 took off for Holguin. American will also begin scheduled service from MIA to Camaguey and Santa Clara on September 9, in addition to launching new service to Varadero on September 11. With scheduled service to Havana slated to begin later this year, American will soon operate a total of 84 weekly flights to Cuba from MIA. Through August, travel between MIA and Cuba is up 28 percent to 761,235 passengers, making it one of the airport’s busiest and fastest-growing international markets.
The new Cuba service strengthens what has already been a super September for MIA. On September 1, MIA welcomed three new international routes: Bimini, Bahamas, by Ft. Lauderdale-based Silver Airways; Cologne, Germany, with three weekly flights by Eurowings; and new non-stop service to Paramaribo, Suriname, by Surinam Airways. On September 28, MIA will add three weekly flights to Copenhagen, Denmark, and four weekly flights to Oslo, Norway by Scandinavian Airlines, which will be followed by Dominican Wings beginning one weekly flight to both Punta Cana and Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic on September 29.
